It's 1988
and Bill and Jimmy are already recording as The JAMS and The KLF, now
enter The Timelords. Fronted by Jimmy's american cop car "Ford
Timelord", "Time Boy" (Bill) and "Lord Rock" (Jimmy) record and release
KLF 3T - Doctorin' The Tardis. The track was a mixture of the theme from
cult TV show Dr. Who, a glam rock "Glitter Sweet beat" and Harry
Enfields Loadsamoney. Easily the most nauseating record in the world, it
appealed to all the lowest common denominators and of course went
massive. For the first time in the history of the UK record charts it
simultaneously held the No. 1 spot in all applicable sections, a
phenomenon it went on to repeat world-wide. For the remix they recruited
Gary Glitter himself who appears on a very limited number of the
records picture sleeves.
In 1990 Jimmy released a solo album on
KLF Communications under the name Space and entitled Space. It was
rumoured that the album was half of a collaboration with Alex Paterson
(The Orb) but that following a disagreement about where The Orb should
sign to Jimmy had taken his part of the project and released it for
himself. The 1 track CD is very hard to find and was subsequently
bootlegged. If you would like to know how to distinguish an original
from a bootleg - mail here.
After The KLF deleted their back catalogue they created the K Foundation and although mainly engaged in Art Terrorism they did produce their interstellar anthem The Red Army Choir Performing K. Cera Cera (War Is Over If You Want It).
In
1995 Bill and Jimmy contributed a track to the War Child charity album
Help. They recorded it as The One World Orchestra and the track was
called The Magnificent.
Finally in 1997 they joined forces with
Jeremy Deller and The Williams Fairey Brass Band for a 23 minute
performance as 2K. The resulting track Fuck The Millennium was
subsequently released as a single but 2K had already vanished into the
ether.
